Foodie Friday - Cinnamon Rolls

I'm a sucker for a yummy cinnamonroll, and NO, I didn't make cinnamon rolls twice this week. This is a recipe I tried a couple of months ago. It's definitely blog worthy. I LOVE this recipe. The dough is made in my bread maker andthe finished product tastes suspiciously like a Cinnabon! YUM!

Ingredients

1 cup warm milk (110 degrees)
2 eggs, room temperature
1/3 cup margarine, melted
4 1/2 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions

Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle; press START.
After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
Roll dough into a 16x21 inch rectangle. Spread dough with 1/3 cup butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls (I use dental floss to cut the rolls). Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees
Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving. ENJOY!

How do I admit loving a book aboutNazis, narrated by Death? I've read many WWII and holocaust books, butmost of them were stories of survivors who endured the horrors of concentrationcamps. This book is from a different perspective. It's from the pointof view of the German people who didn't necessarily agree with the Nazi Partybut were forced to comply to protect their livelihoods and families. It'sabout the power of words and the power of love.

The writing is beautiful and almostpoetic, and while it may be a long book, I loved every word of it. Ifound myself rereading several passages, not because I didn't understand them,but because I wanted to savor and remember them. I experienced somany emotions while reading this book. One minute I was laughing, thenext I was crying. There were also times that I was so angry that I hadto put the book down and take a breather.

A friend loaned me a copy of this book. I willbe buying a copy of my own because I know that The Book Thief is onethat I will return to many times in years to come. I won't be orderingthis one on my Kindle. I want this book sitting on my bookshelf. Consideringthe subject matter, this is a book that needs to be held in your hands and haveits pages turned.

Anyone whoknows Kurt might be surprised to learn that, when we moved to Virginia, hedidn't bring any tools with him. Luckily I thought to bring along my"girly" tool box. It's come in handy for doing minor repairsaround our apartment and for hanging pictures, etc. Needless to say,whenever someone in the ward has a "fix-it" issue, Kurt JUMPS at thechance to help out. As long as they have tools, he's ON IT!!! I'mgrateful that he is always so willing to help. This week was noexception. A friend had a leaky toilet and he was there to help. Little did we know, when we managed apartments early in our marriage, that hewould learn how to fix anything and everything. I don't recall EVERhaving to hire a repairman for ANYTHING! I love my fix-it man!

Kurt insisted that I needed a Kindle. He had one, and he loved it. Me? I love turning the pages in my books. I love bookmarks. I love bookshelves, bookcases and bookends. I love libraries. Knowing we were going on a cruise last September, I agreed that a Kindle would be nice so I could travel a little lighter with my reading material. I've gotta say, I'm a believer now! At last count, I've read 17 books on my Kindle! My favorite thing is bouncing back and forth from the Book of Mormon to my favorite scripture study guide, "Verse by Verse." It makes studying the scriptures so easy! I recently came across, (thanks for the heads-up, Lia), a mailing list called "Pixel of Ink." Every day they send you an email with free or low cost ebooks. Some of the offerings have been things I have absolutely no interest in, but I have found some really good books from the list! I haven't stopped reading "real" books - I never will - but there's something to be said for being able to increase the font size on the Kindle so I can read a book without reading glasses!!

Foodie Friday - Pesto!

Icouldn't believe how easy it was to make my own pesto! I've wanted togive this a try for quite some time. Today was the day! Here's therecipe I used:

2cups fresh, packed basil leaves with stems removed

1/3cup grated Parmesan/Romano cheese

1/3cup pine nuts (if you can't find pine nuts, you can use walnuts or hazelnuts)

3garlic cloves, finely minced (or 1 TBLS prepared minced garlic)

1TBLSlemon juice

1/3cup extra virgin olive oil

Washbasil and remove stems. Chop pine nuts, garlic and olive oil in foodprocessor. You can use a blender if you don't have a food processor. Add basil leaves in small batches. Chop the mix until if forms athick, smooth paste. Blend in the grated cheese. (Note, if you planto freeze the pesto, leave the cheese out and add it when you thaw and useit). Voila! Delish!

Littledid I know, when I started running, that it's not uncommon to lose a toenail ortwo when you run a half or full marathon. Ilost one when I ran The Disneyland Half Marathon in 2007. I knew, as soon as Icrossed the finish line at the Sun Trust Richmond Marathon in November, thatI'd lose another one. Sure enough. Mybig toenail finally came off this week, almost 3 months after I injured it. Is this the ugliestthing you've ever seen? SOOOOO thankful I don't have to wear a bandaid around my toe anymore!

Ever since I can remember, I have loved libraries andbooks. It all started in a small basement library in Garland, Utah. My mom would take me and my sister there often to check out stacks ofbooks. I remember how I loved the quiet, almost reverent, feeling andthe smell of old, musty books. Imagine my excitement when I first enteredthe Library of Congress in Washington DC. Then, imagine my disappointmentto find out that I was only allowed to look down on the reading room from aglass window above. I have been wanting to get my reader card ever sinceI first walked into this building.

It's going to happen now. I am, finally, along with my friend Lynne, a card-carrying Library of Congress reader! We did notice that our cards are only valid for 2 years. Guess we'll have to make the trek back to DC next year to renew!

I've been in a crocheting mode this month. It's relaxing and a good excuse to cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie. These are a few of the things I've made lately:

The scarves were birthday presents for my sister and my mom. Purple for Vicki. Blue for Mom.

I found this cute pattern on Pinterest and made it for a new baby in the ward. Can't wait to see her wearing it!

This little baby hat took about an hour to make. I LOVE crocheting!

I made this Barbeque Chicken Pizza this week. Doesn't it look yummy? It's our new favorite!

I found this knock-off California PizzaKitchen recipe for Barbeque Chicken Pizza. With a few tweaks, we have aKEEPER!!

BARBEQUECHICKEN PIZZA

Ingredients

1 whole Recipe For Pizza Crust (see below for a two crust recipe)
2 whole Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts
1/2 cup Barbecue Sauce
Olive Oil, For Drizzling
Salt For Sprinkling
16 ounces Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, Sliced Thinly
1/2 whole Red Onion, Cut In Half And Sliced Very Thin
Sliced green onions

Preparation Instructions

Preheatoven to 375 degrees.

Saltchicken breasts on both sides, then place in an ovenproof dish. Pour BBQ sauceover the breasts and turn them over to coat. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, oruntil chicken is done. Remove from oven and cut into a fine dice. Set aside.

Increaseoven temperature to 500 degrees.

Roll/stretchout one pizza crust. Lay it on a sheet pan drizzled with olive oil. Drizzle alittle olive oil on the crust, then sprinkle on a little salt.

Spoona couple of tablespoons of extra BBQ sauce on the crust and spread it evenly.Top sauce with half the sliced mozzarella. Sprinkle on half the diced chicken, thinly sliced red onion, and sliced green onions.

Sprinkleagain with a little salt, then bake for 15 to 17 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and toppings are bubbly.

Serve immediately. Repeat with other crust and other ingredients, or save foranother time.

Recipe: Basic Pizza Crust

Ingredients

1 teaspoon Instant Or Active Dry Yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 cup Warm Water
4 cups All-purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
1/3 cup Olive Oil

Preparation Instructions

Sprinklesugar over 1 1/2 cups warm (not lukewarm) water. Sprinkle yeast on top.Let stand for a few minutes. In a mixer, combine flour and salt. With themixer running on low speed (with paddle attachment), drizzle in olive oil untilcombined with flour. Next, pour in yeast/water mixture and mix until justcombined, and the dough comes together in a sticky mass.

Coata separate mixing bowl with a light drizzle of olive oil, and form the doughinto a ball. Toss to coat dough in olive oil, then cover the bowl tightly withplastic wrap and set it aside for 1 to 2 hours, or store in the fridge untilyou need it.

Note:it’s best to make the dough at least 24 hours in advance, and 3 or 4 days iseven better.

Whenyou are ready to make the pizza, grab HALF the pizza dough (recipe makes 2crusts) and squeeze the dough toward the bottom to form a nice, tight, pulledball. You can roll out the pizza with a rolling pin if you’d like, butsometimes it’s just as easy to throw it around and pull and stretch till itfeels right. And when the crust is nice and thin, lay it on an oiled bakingsheet or pizza pan. Drizzle a little olive oil on the dough and spread it withyour fingers. Very lightly sprinkle some salt on the crust. Preheat ovento 375 degrees. Top your crust with your toppings of choice. Then bake for 15to 17 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and toppings are bubbly.

This is me, last month, in front of our ship, TheGrand Princess. We were in Curacao, in the Southern Caribbean. I love cruising! I definitely won't be seeing the newTitanic remake in 3-D!

Saturday Adventure - Newseum

Today, Kurt and I spent the day at the Newseum in Washington DC. We've been

wanting to go here for awhile, so when we came across a great deal on Groupon, we jumped at the chance. What a fun place to visit! I will forever watch the news and read the newspaper differently now.

Some of the things we saw today included amazing Pulizter Prize winning photographs, a portion of the Berlin Wall, sports photography of Neil Leifer, headlines from famous FBI cases and a heart-wrenching display at the 9/11 Gallery. We also enjoyed the view of Pennsylvania Avenue from the Hank Greenspun Terrace. Fun day!

Foodie Friday - Raspberry Butter

I made this yummy raspberry butter for our Relief Society Activity this week.

This recipe (if you can call it a recipe) comes from my daughter Angie.

It's delicious on hot rolls, homemade bread, toast, waffles, pancakes, cornbread, etc. etc.....

The biggest problem is the temptation to SLATHER all of the above items with this

deliciousness. WARNING: It makes a boatload, but it freezes well in smaller containers.

Raspberry Butter

6 cubes (1-1/2 lbs.) butter (YES, you read that correctly)

1 can Comstock Raspberry Pie Filling

Bring butter to room temperature, whip until fluffy. Add pie filling. Whip until completely

incorporated. That's it!

Now....join Weight Watchers! ;-)

I'mfinally running again. I gave myself a couple of months to recoverfrom running my first marathon. My left knee is still a littletender, and I'm losing the big toenail on my left foot, but I HAD to get backon the treadmill. I'm a much happier, more energetic person when Irun. There's definitely something to be said for elevated serotonin andendorphin levels. Life is good!

The calendar says January, but theSpring-like weather screams April! A few weeks ago the cherryblossoms started to bloom on the trees outside our apartment! Crazyweather! I was beginning to think that winter wasn't going to happenthis year. Well, yesterday we finally had some snow! I wentgrocery shopping in a t-shirt and flip-flops. Temperatures were in the50's. When I came out of the store, about 45 minutes later, thetemperature had dropped to below freezing and it was snowing! It snowedall afternoon. I don't know how to dress anymore. I guess I'll justcontinue to layer. It's supposed to feel Springy again tomorrow.

YesterdayI was a guest speaker in Young Women at church. I was asked to talk about things

that bring me joy. Naturally, the first thing thatcame to mind was my family.

Foodie Friday - Old Fashioned Pink Popcorn - AKA Mother Goose Popcorn

I FOUND IT! I have been looking for this recipe for years! This is the popcorn I loved as a child. We referred to it as Mother Goose Popcorn. This is not your typical sticky, pull your fillings out, popcorn. It's not greasy like some caramel popcorn can be either. It's PERFECT! I can't wait until Kurt gets home! I'm on my way to the nearest Redbox. MOVIE NIGHT!!!

Old Fashioned Pink Popcorn

(AKA Mother Goose Popcorn)

2 cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup half and half, cream or whole milk
1 TBLS white corn syrup
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
few drops red food coloring

Place sugar, cream, corn syrup and salt in saucepan on a medium heat. Stir well and cook until sugar has fully dissolved before allowing mixture to boil (this is important to avoid making the popcorn too sugary). Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until reaching 230 degrees or soft ball stage. Add vanilla and food coloring. Mix well. Pour over 6 quarts of popcorn and stir until well coated. Spread out on baking sheet and allow to dry. YUM. This is VERY addicting!

I read this book last year and LOVED it. One of my goals this year is to express gratitude more often, both to my Heavenly Father for my many blessings and also to my friends and family for all of the wonderful things they do and what they mean to me. While I would love to make this a daily habit, I know myself better than that. I'll just do my best to write more thank you notes this year.

Snapshot Sunday - Out with the old.....In with the new

Kurt and I spent the last day of 2011 driving from Orlando, Florida to Fayetteville, North Carolina. We have had such a WONDERFUL 2 week vacation. Our travels took us on a Southern Caribbean cruise to Aruba, Curacao and Princess Cays. Upon our return, we drove down to the southernmost point of the U.S., Key West, Florida. What a fun place to spend Christmas Eve. We spent Christmas Day walking on the beach in Miami and lounging in our hotel room. Our final adventure was Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We spent one day in each park, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. We encountered record crowds and all of the parks were full to capacity each day by 11:00 am. We had a fun time, but, needless to say, we were DONE by the last day. On our way home, we stopped at Flagler Beach, Florida (where this photo was taken), then spent New Years Eve watching movies and eating pizza in our hotel room in Fayetteville. Very relaxing - just what we needed! What a whirlwind year this has been! We are both looking forward to more adventures in 2012. It will be interesting to see what life has in store for us in the coming year.

Chinese with Friends

This morning, I made these Mini Chocolate Chip Pecan Pies with Salted Caramel Drizzle treats and took them to my friends at Dr. Kiholm's office. I first tasted these delectable delights at a Memorial Day Party at Villa Strayer. Whitney Lichty, author of "Haus Food" blog was the creator. Whitney, and her husband Ben, have since become the proud parents of a beautiful baby boy and I'm sure Whitney's busier than she's ever been in her life, but she so graciously agreed to give me the recipe before it was even posted on her blog. After I was "crowned" queen for the day, we all went to lunch at Diamond Chinese Restaurant. It was just like old times. I'd forgotten how yummy this restaurant is! It was a special treat to have "Dr." Mike join us today. I love that guy. Nobody understands my "lack of color" like he does! ;-)

This is what came out of my fortune cookie today. I guess I'd better be thinking green. I'll need all the luck I can get next week.

Fun With Friends

Tonight I hung out with Lynne, Erin, Carrie and Carol. We had dinner at Mexquite Restaurant in Folsom. We talked for a couple of hours and then went to Big Spoon Yogurt for dessert. I have sure missed my P'ville friends!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I'm still trying to organize my basement while I'm here in Placerville. Today I went through 3 boxes of letters - you know, the kind we used to write with a pen and mail with a postage stamp! I am such a sentimental fool. I have saved every letter and card I've received since I was in Junior High School, including notes passed in the hallway in 7th grade! What a trip down memory lane this has been. I had to keep reminding myself that I had a job to do, but found myself pouring over notes from friends, relatives and even a few old boyfriends ;-) I did manage to toss a few things, but, for the most part, I still have quite a collection - it's an organized collection though! ;-)

Under the Weather

Today I stayed home from church because I wasn't feeling well. I was feeling a little better by late afternoon when Tyler, Dolly and Teddy came by for dinner. I thought it was cute that Teddy asked to watch the Grandma Movie again. I love this sweet boy!

Long Time...No See!!!

Today I spent the ENTIRE day with my long, lost friend Leslie. We haven't seen each other since Angie's wedding (almost 10 years ago). She and I go waaaay back. I served with her in Ward and Stake YW in Tracy/Manteca. We've camped together, shopped together, and tolerated our husbands together through their Hans and Frans phase. She's been my personal nurse, confidant, and all-round great example of the kind of person I want to be. I've missed her. She was visiting her dad in Antioch and set aside an ENTIRE day for me!!!
We met half-way in Elk Grove (after a small cell-phone issue :-), had breakfast at "Mimi's", where we talked for almost 4 hours. We moved down the street to "Five Guys" for lunch, where we talked for another 3 or 4 hours. We ended the day at "Pinkberry" for not one, but two frozen yogurts! We talked for almost 4 hours there too! I still don't think we've completely caught up, but it's definitely a start. I'm not sure I've laughed this hard in a LONG time! We vowed to NEVER let another 10 years go by without getting together. Maybe I can lure her out to DC!

Midnight in Paris

Tonight I went with my friends, Lynne, Susan, Alicia, Patsy and Carrie to see "Midnight in Paris" in Folsom. There were mixed reviews among us, regarding the movie (I really liked it), but I think we all agreed it was fun to get out and have some girlfriend time!
I REALLY want to go to Paris someday....

Sweet 100's

Today Kurt emailed me photos of the tomatoes and peppers we planted on April 22nd. I couldn't believe how big the plants have gotten while I've been here in California. He ate some of the Sweet 100's tonight and said they were "DELICIOUS!" I can't wait to go home and make some BLT's!!!

Scorpion Queen

Dolly and Teddy spent the night tonight while Tyler worked the mid-shift. His work schedule will be quite an adjustment for this new little family. We had fun watching Pride and Prejudice, eating Mexican food, and looking at wedding pictures. The highlight of the night, however, was when Teddy discovered a scorpion in the shower upstairs. Ugh. Thank goodness Dolly isn't a weenie. And what a relief to find out our little friend had already expired ;-)

Today I watched as our travel trailer was hauled off of our property. Earlier in the week, I sold it to a neighbor's friend. I made a whopping $100.00!! Tyler says we should have paid someone to haul it off. He should know, he lived in this trailer while we were building our home. I can't wait to see what they end up doing with it. They plan to "pimp it out" and use it for a traveling boutique. Should be interesting.

This morning I had the honor of attending the temple with my son's new mother-in-law, who is also my friend, Claudia Smith. What a wonderful experience we had. We enjoyed the peace that can only be experienced in the Lord's House. We then walked to Lake Natomas and chatted the whole time. We ended our morning with lunch at Rubios. YUM! Thank you Claudia! Thank you for your friendship and for the gift of your sweet daughter in my life....and, by the way, this is the yummiest whole wheat bread and strawberry jam I have EVER eaten!!!

As if my morning were not perfect enough, I got to spend the evening with my dear friend Tara! Her sweet husband did Dad duty so she could visit me in Placerville. We had dinner at a new restaurant here in Placerville - Bricks Eats and Drinks. What a fun restaurant! We stopped for frozen yogurt at Whistle Stop, and came back to the house where she gave me iPad lessons and we looked at our DC pictures and talked until she turned into a pumpkin at midnight. I sure do love my friends. I am so blessed!

Today I went shopping with my friend Judy. We made our way through Kohl's, Ross, and Michaels. We had fun trying on crazy shoes. Judy bought 4 pair. I bought 1. No worries, we didn't buy any of the shoes pictured above! ;-) We had lunch at La Bou, great conversation, and LOTS of fun!

Today I had the pleasure of going to the dentist. A few years ago, I would never have considered any dental experience a pleasure, but I have come to LOVE Dr. Kiholm and his staff and look forward to having my teeth cleaned every 6 months! I miss my dental office co-workers and consider them my extended family!

Chicken Spaghetti

Tonight I made Pioneer Woman's Chicken Spaghetti for dinner. All I can say is YUM! I'm loving her cookbook and can't wait to try everything in the book! This one's a keeper!

Chicken Spaghetti

1 cup up fryer (I used chicken boneless, skinless chicken breasts)
1 lb. thin spaghetti, broken into 2-inch pieces
One 4-ounce jar diced pimentos, drained (I used diced red pepper)
1 small onion
1/4 cup finely diced green bell bepper
2 can cream of mushroom soup (I used 98% fat free)
2 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 tsp. seasoned salt, such as Lawry's
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Add the chicken to a stock pot. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer until the chicken is cooked, about 25 min.
3. Remove the chicken from the water using tongs or a slotted spoon and set it aside on a plate to coat.
4. Remove 2 cups of broth from the pot and set aside.
5. Bring the remaining broth back to a boil and add the spaghetti. Cook it al dente.
6. Drain the spaghetti, discarding the cooking liquid. Set aside.
7. With two forks (or your fingers), remove the chicken from the bones. Shred or cut the meat into bite-size chunks.
8. Drain the pimientos.
9. Dice the onion and green pepper.
10. Place the cooked spaghetti in a large bowl. Add the cream of mushroom soup and 2 cups of the cheese.
11. Add the onion, green pepper, and pimientos. Add the seasoned salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
12. Finally, add the chicken and broth.
13. Stir together well, then taste to check the seasonings.
14. Pour the mixture into a large baking dish and top with the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese. Bake for 35-45 minutes, until bubbly.

Today, after church, Kurt and I decided to take an Easter nature walk. We found things that reminded us why we celebrate Easter.
1 - A branch - The week before His crucifixion, as Christ entered the city, the people waved branches from palm trees. (We don't have palm trees here in Manassas ;-)
2. A piece of wood - for it was out of wood that His cross was made.
3. Something prickly - His crown was made of thorns.
4. Something no longer alive - for truly, the Savior did die.
5. Three things that are dark in color - light could not be found for three days following His death.
6. A stone - it was a huge stone at the opening of the grave that the angel removed.
7. Something living - to remind us that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected and He surely lives today!

Luray Earth Day 5K

Today marks the 6th anniversary of my very first competitive race. I ran the Salt Lake City 5K on April 23, 2005. It was a life changing experience for me. I have been hooked on running ever since. I have run multiple 5K's, a few 10K's, 3 half marathons, and am registered to run my first marathon on November 12, 2011.

Today I participated in the Luray Earth Day 5K. The setting was breathtaking, but I'm afraid it wasn't the beauty of my surroundings that really took my breath away ;-)

There were about 70 participants, and there were no timing chips involved. It was definitely a small town race. It was my kind of race.

I mostly run on a treadmill, so this was my first time running on pavement in a LONG time.

It rained all night long last night, but the weather cooperated and the rain stopped about 30 minutes before the race. The wind, unfortunately, didn't. We were running directly into the wind for most of the race.

Here I am at about the 1.5 mile mark.....before I got lost....
Yes, I got lost. I was left in the dust by the fast runners and was ahead of the slower runners, running solo, and took a wrong turn. I then had to make a course correction. I probably lost at least l minute trying to get back on track. Note to self: go UNDER the bridge next time!

I got winded trying to make up for lost time and had to walk for awhile, so my time was 3 minutes slower than my first 5K. I was really hoping to beat my 2005 time. Bummer.

I miss our California garden and love the square foot gardening method. This is the best we can do living in an apartment. Tonight we planted some tomatoes and peppers. Hopefully we'll have success with our "round foot" garden!

I have the privilege of driving a lady from church to her dialysis appointment every Monday morning and then picking her up later in the afternoon. She is such a good example to me of perseverance and cheerfulness. I've learned a lot from her. One of my favorite things to do is to play with her dog when I take her home. I've never seen such a smart dog!

Miles To Go by Richard Paul Evans

I finished reading "Miles To Go" today, second book in "The Walk" series by Richard Paul Evans. I bought it the day it was released and devoured it ;-) I love tagging along on Alan Christoffersen's journey and find myself highlighting entries in the book that I don't want to forget. There's a lot of food for thought in this series. I can hardly wait for book #3. It won't be released until April 2012..... sigh.......

Honesty is the Best Policy

Today I taught a lesson in Relief Society about Honesty. The lesson taught that it IS possible to be COMPLETELY honest "in every thought, in our reflections, in our meditations, in our private circles, in our deals, in our declarations, and in every act of our lives." We had some wonderful discussions about what it means to be honest and how we can strive to be more honest. As always, I am the one to learn the most when I teach a lesson at church.

We found the most amazing grocery store. It's real name is Wegmans, but we call it Disneyland. It is quite an adventure. Great prices on regular groceries and then TONS of specialty items that make my mouth water. The deli is wonderful and we often just eat dinner there. Love this store!

Today we visited the Museum of American History AND the Museum of Natural History. It's our last day in DC, so we crammed them both in. Normally, a person could spend a week at each of these museums, so, needless to say, we didn't see everything. Not even close. I've been to both museums, so I was able to show Tara and highlights. We had lunch at The Old Post Office and took the elevator to the top to see the entire city. Tara was able to ALMOST finish her souvenir shopping in the gift shops today. YAY! Back to Chick-fil-A for dinner. I think Tara loves their chocolate milkshakes ;-)

This morning we took VRE to Union Station, walked to the Capitol, took the tour, then went to the Library of Congress and took the tour there also. We walked back to Union Station and had lunch at Uno Chicago Grill Pizzeria, then walked through the US Botanic Garden. We're getting some serious exercise!

Kurt got home late last night, so he joined me and Tara this morning. We drove to DC and walked around the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms. The blooms were at peak today - SO beautiful! We stopped at the Jefferson Memorial and the FDR Memorial on our walk and then went to the National Air and Space Museum. Today is Kurt's birthday. We all went to Panda Express (Kurt's request) for dinner then went home and opened presents and had some of Tara's amazing cupcakes. What a fun day!

Tara and I covered a lot of territory today. We got up early and took VRE (should have thought of this yesterday) to DC. We went to the Washington Monument, WW II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Albert Einstein Memorial, White House, Federal Triangle, Old Post Office, and The National Archives. We were exhausted! We did some shopping in Manassas and had dinner at Chick-fil-A.

This morning, the parking lot at Vienna/Fairfax Metro was full (darn those Cherry Blossom tourists ;-), so we decided to drive to the West Falls Church station. Kurt has the GPS with him in Florida, so we were winging it. I missed my turn and as we were trying to figure out how to get back on the beltway, we saw the Tyson's Corner Mall. We both looked at each other and smiled. Guess where we spent the day? As it turned out, it was a good choice. National Cherry Blossom Festival

This morning we rode Metro in to Washington DC to see the beautiful Cherry Blossoms. We walked around the entire tidal basin and took in the views. It was crazy crowded, but we managed to get a few photos without a million tourists in them. We also visited the Jefferson Memorial and the FDR Memorial. There is so much to see here. The National Marathon was also taking place in downtown DC this morning, which added to the congestion, but it was so much fun to see and hear the ooooohs and aaaaaahs of everyone who came to see this beautiful sight! It was a crisp, chilly day, and it's supposed to snow again tonight. I hope the freeze doesn't affect the blossoms which are supposed to be at peak next week. Can't wait to see them then!
